RADIO VERITAS YOUTH CAMP
52 young people gathered at the Bosco Youth Centre in Walkerville for a weekend camp – the first ever organised by a team from Radio Veritas. The theme of the camp was the Year of Faith and the young people explored the implications of their faith in today’s world. Some came from as far away as Parys and Stilfontein all of whom heard about the camp on Radio Veritas.
The first evening was devoted to getting to know each other and ended with a pilgrimage praying the rosary to the top of the local hill where there is an illuminated cross. On Saturday, after morning exercises, they gathered to work together in groups on a war cry illustrating that working together is very much part of Christian life. This was also great fun. Later there was a sort of ‘amazing race’ which captured the imagination of people and all learnt about Christian virtues in a very practical way. Throughout the day the group was exposed to different practical explorations into their faith. On Saturday evening everyone had the opportunity of experiencing the sacrament of reconciliation and healing.
The climax of the weekend was a mass on Sunday afternoon which was attended by almost 500 young people who came from all over the diocese to celebrate Youth Day. There were nine priests concelebrating and the lively and relevant homily was preached by the dynamic Fr George Njonge of Dobsonville.
This was a totally absorbing weekend and the hope is that this will be repeated each year. Congratulations to the organising team which really excelled in putting this together.
